School is almost out and summer is just beginning. Last summer, was great and I have high expectations for this summer. But during this free time or my year, there are countless occasions, in between swimming and going out with friends, that I get the munchies. I have found 3 snacks that I found perfect to eat during any day of the summer. They were just what I needed when I got the munchies.
The first snack is peanut butter, no bake cookies. This recipe I found is delicious, easy, and relatively healthy. First you melt together is a saucepan: ¼ cup of Coconut oil, 1/3 cup of Maple syrup, and ¼ cup of Cocoa powder over a medium heat on the stove. Then, add in ¼ cup of almond milk, 1 tsp of vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the mixture boils. Then, take it off the heat and add in ¼ cup of peanut butter and 2 cups of oats. Finally, scoop spoonfuls of the dough on wax paper and refrigerate for about 15 minutes, then enjoy it! You don’t have to be a cook to prepare this easy snack. Next, the perfect refreshment I found for the hottest part of the day is a strawberry-watermelon smoothie. Again, this is super easy to make. All you have to do it fill a blender with watermelon and about 10 strawberries and blend together. I use frozen strawberries to make the smoothie more refreshing. If you want the smoothie to be a bit more frozen, feel free to add ice cubes and sweetener to your likings. This is perfect to eat with your lunch or by the poolside. Last, to finish off the day around the campfire, I love to make s’more treats. This particular treat is my favorite. Making it is quick and easy. First, line any size of pan with a thin layer of rice Krispy treats (marshmallow and rice Krispy), then add a layer of graham crackers over top, followed by a layer of chocolate, marshmallow, another layer or rice Krispy treats, and a top layer of marshmallows. Stick this in the on broil to melt the marshmallows and you have the perfect campfire snack. All of these treats are great snack to make on a hot summer day/ night and are perfect to share and make quickly and easily with friends. The first time I heard of the strange instrument I was talking to an old woman at Metamora’s Canal Days. She talked about a “Sweet Potato” and I asked her about it. She smiled and told me to wait there as she went into her home and got it. It looked… Well. Like a sweet potato! I was so interested and then she played it. The melody was so soothing… I had never heard anything so beautiful. She told me it was an heirloom from her grandfather. That night I want online and researched. There was so much out there! I had to have one.
It took a few days (as normal with the mail being slow) but finally it arrived! I unboxed it and it was beautifully well made. I bought it off of STL Ocarina and when I put to my lips and blew… It sounded like trash. I was terrible at it. I was angry at myself for buying it and almost tossed it. But I decided to practice… A lot. And the next year I want to Canal Day’s with it and played on the bridge. And people paid me! In a few hours I made roughly 70 dollars. Not too shabby. But the best part was that people were humming my music even after I stopped. I played freshmen year football I was nervous. Freshmen year was fun. Then it came to sophomore year and our head coach and football staff had stop working and we were getting a new coach and new staff and I didn’t know how I felt about that so I didn’t play my sophomore year. I wish I would have played. The coach called me into his room and talked to me and tried getting me to play. I also had a couple players trying to get me to play but I didn’t.
Then it came to Junior year and I played again but this time I had to earn my position on the o-line. After all the hard work that I had put into football I got the position at starting center for Batesville High School. This made me very excited to play and we had a really good season. The game at Greensburg was a very fun game even though Greensburg was playing rough we still came out with the win. Then we went to sectionals and won the first two games. After that we were really excited and went to the last round of sectionals. In the last round of sectionals, it was raining hard and was very muddy. The whole game was going back and forth then it came to the last quarter and we was up by six. The team we were facing got the ball back and was able to score and was able to come ahead of us by one point which then ended my junior year of football. Now we are getting into our senior year and we started lifting but then I had something tragic happen and lost one of my good friends that I went to school with at my old school due to a car accident which then made me think about going to Milan so I can go to school with my friends. In order to think about that I decided to take a break for about a month. But then I decided the right thing to do was to stay at Batesville and finish my high school career and football career at Batesville High school and I am very glad I did.
My name is Megan Kessens and I am a senior at Batesville High School. I enjoy spending a lot of time with my boyfriend and friends. I love to cruise in his car and go swimming. There is many ups and downs in the world of racing dirt bikes, a lot of misconception with dirt bikes is that the bike does all the work. Let me be the first to tell you, it’s nothing like you can imagine.
The Cleveland Browns have made a lot of different offseason moves this year. This is all started with former General Manager Sashi Brown who made a lot of trades and traded back a lot in drafts in order to get a huge amount of picks for the next couple of years. Everyone is always making fun of the Browns for messing up quarterback situations by either drafting a bust or not drafting a certain player that would later become a pro bowl quarterback *cough cough* Carson Wentz.
They started this year with a bang in firing Sashi Brown in order to get a more football background general manger in John Dorsey. As soon as that happen they just started unloading trades by first trading for Jarvis Landry who has had ninety plus catches each of all his NFL seasons. Then they traded for Tyrod Taylor who is a bridge quarter so whoever they selected with the first overall pick can sit and learn behind him for a year and not rush the rookie into it. Tyrod Taylor has made a pro bowl and he hardly ever turns the ball over. The Browns made other trades that weren’t as big in the football world but were big to a very young Browns team. The Browns still had their first round picks the 1st overall pick and the 4th overall pick. With the first pick they drafted Baker Mayfield out of Oklahoma many people did not expect this as he is undersized but he does have a winning quarter back mentality. With the 4th overall pick they drafted Denzel Ward out of Ohio State and John Dorsey has had success with corners in the the past like Marcus Peters who is considered a lock down corner who gets a lot of turnovers. The Browns are a very young team who are eager to learn everyday sure they will be coach changes, players traded, and cut. That is every NFL team though and they have the Nucleus to become a very good team not only in the next ten years maybe just five. About the author: Hi my name is Salvador Blanco I am a Senior here at Batesville High School. I love sports I have played basketball, soccer, and I've ran track. I am also a very big football fan I was pretty much born a New England Patriots fan and I've followed them since when I could remember
My name is Lizzi Copeland. I am a junior at BHS. I enjoy to hanging out with my friends, binging on Netflix, and finding new adventures. I was delivered at the Dearborn County Hospital on March 19th, . I was later brought back to a house that my family had lived in for 2 years before I was born, in the small town of Dillsboro. In 2003 my family packed up their things and moved to Milan, it was a change for us but, we were ready for something new. I started going to Milan Elementary School and that’s where I met some of my closest friends to this day. I played some sports while I was at Milan. I wrestled, played basketball football and also baseball. I continued going to this school until my dad’s construction company started growing and we decided to move to the outskirts of Batesville. I had to move schools again which landed me in the Batesville School district, but I continued my passion for football. I play as a defensive end and exceed at tackling quarterbacks.
At my new house I get to do everything I love. I grew up being around the country, so I developed some of my other favorite hobbies such as hunting and fishing. Every chance that I get, I’m always in a tree stand or by a pond. I love the adrenaline rush from it all whether it’s watching a monstrous buck trot through the woods, or feeling the weight of a huge bass tugging on my pole. As far as my personality goes, I’m a pretty laid back type of person. I grew up and was taught to be well mannered and respectful to others. I’m a very hardworking person and I love getting my hands dirty as well. So as far as getting to know me, this is everything about me. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” We hear this a ton growing up. Most
people have no idea, even when they go to college. My case is different though. Growing up I always said I wanted to be a doctor. I love that they get to help people and change lives. As I got older, I learned that there are other jobs within a hospital. That is when my mind changed. Still, to this day, I cannot decide if I wanted to be a nurse, doctor, or even a surgeon. I know all of these careers are very difficult, but I am willing to put all the work in that is necessary. This is my dream. Later, when I entered high school, I found my love for dance. I made the Batesville High School Dance Team and I absolutely love it. The team is incredible and it is an amazing environment. I love that I am able to express myself through dance and push myself. Dance has taught me self-discipline, leadership, perseverance, etc. It has shown me how a team should be; no drama, friendships, quality work. This is what really makes our team unique. Now After my 3rd year of dance team and studio dance, this has also become a passion and dream of mine. About the author: my name is Whitney Drew.
