My name is Mason Beck, and I am a student at Batesville High School. I am writing about racism because it is something that I am very passionate about. I feel that every man should be treated equal and no one should be discriminated against.
Racism. Racism is something that we have been fighting against for a long time. Although we have made progress, this fight will not be over unless there is a enormous societal change. Every single man and woman on this earth is made, born, and loved the same way. So why should a pigment in the skin cause so much hassle? So much hate. So much anger. It frankly doesn’t make any sense. Some people just will never understand what it is like to be discriminated against, like me. But I have seen it happen to my friends. I have seen what it can do to a person when they have done nothing wrong. Racism is what is tearing our people apart. If a white man pricks his finger. If a black woman pricks her finger. If a Hispanic man pricks his finger. If a Muslim woman pricks her finger, what color comes out? We all bleed the same color, we all have the same blood running through our veins. We all have the same stomach, liver, muscles, bones, brain. What makes us all different? Just the color of our skin? How can someone look at anyone who is different than them and judge them without knowing their story? Knowing who they are. Everyone deserves a chance to be treated equally, loved equally, and not have to worry about someone killing, hating, or trying to put them down because of the color of their skin. Thank you for listening, lets make a change. Lets fight Racism together

An empty gym
I love the serenity of an empty gym. The noise from the basketball bouncing and no other noise is soothing. Being able to play the game I love with no distractions is a very fulfilling feeling. Heated Blankets The comfort that is given from a heated blanket is hard to come by. Being able to climb into a warm bed on a cold snowy day is truly a wonderful feeling. Jeep Rides There isn’t much that can compare to the feeling of Jeep rides on a summer day with the top off and country music blaring through the speaker with your best friends surrounding you. Game Days Game Days are always my favorite days of the week. It is always great to have something to look forward to at the end of a stressful school day. I love knowing that I have the ability to represent my community by playing the games that I love. Baths Nothing is more relaxing than sitting in a warm bath after a strenuous week of basketball and volleyball workouts to relieve your sore muscles. Horse Shows Horse shows are truly my favorite place. Being surrounded by so many people that genuinely love and care for you is the most amazing feeling. I love knowing that I can be myself without receiving judgment because everyone there is actually a hot mess most of the time. Vacation days Vacation days are a blessing. Being able to go to sleep without setting an alarm clocking and knowing that I don’t have any commitments for the next day is comforting. Time with friends My friends are the greatest blessing that I’ve received. They truly love me for who I am and support me through all of my outlandish behaviors. Any time I get to spend with them is my favorite. My name is Hattie Westerfeld. I’m a junior at Batesville High School and play basketball and volleyball. I hope to play basketball and study pre-vet or pre-law at a college of my choice. Is it a Cafeteria or a Wasteland? Over this past year there have been many changes around our school that we have noticed such as renovations and new faculty. There have been many changes that have gone unnoticed and/or unmentioned such as the changes in our cafeteria. The changes that I have noticed are not the best changes that have been made and I will explain why better ones can be made. While sitting in the cafeteria I had seen a student struggle to get their whole apple out of a plastic bag that the cafeteria staff had placed it in, which was not needed. The amount of things now being placed in plastic containers or plastic bags is alarming. These things include salads, salad toppings, whole fruits and vegetables, and even whole lunches. In the past when getting a salad you would get a tray and build your salad in the back a la carte line. Now you enter the back and are greeted with a tower of ‘salad’ boxes. When you look at the contents of one of these so called salad boxes you quickly see the amount of wasted plastic. The salad itself is in a plastic box, each salad topping (usually 4 toppings in each box) is in its own bag, you then have a grain which is usually inside of more plastic, the fruit or vegetable is also in plastic, and finally your milk carton. Now if you have lost count that equates to about seven different plastic containers and a milk carton if you were to multiple that by the number of students that eat this each week we are greeted with an unneeded number of wasted materials I believe that we need to reduce the amount of waste we produce through our cafeteria by implementing a recycling program within the cafeteria. At this moment in time we are only able to recycle water bottles and cans which is only a very small amount of the waste that we produce. What should we as a school and even as a community do about this? About the author Kiley Cline is a current senior. I don’t like to ride them, I like to race them, fix them, and even just talk about them. Motocross is a really good active sport. It can also be dangerous. If you want to join a motocross racing event you should probably think twice before signing up. Motocross is not the sport to mess around in. You could really get hurt doing this. I suggest a lot of practice before you sign up for a racing event. Motocross takes years of experience and training. Many motocross riders are strong and healthy. It is important to have strength while riding a two-hundred -pound motorcycle. It is really important that you wear all the gear that is meant for motocross. When racing, be sure to wear your helmet, boots, gloves, jersey, pants, goggles, and neck brace. This gear will help keep you protected while on the moto track. Motocross racing is a very fun sport, but is also very expensive. It makes it more affordable if you have a team that would sponsor you. Sponsors pay for the bike, gear, insurance and more. For some people interested in Motocross- there are riding camps out there that you can sign up for that will teach you the ups and downs of riding. They show you how to ride as fast as you can while doing it safely as well. If you are interested in racing I really suggest these riding camps for beginners. I am Nick Reed; I am a junior in high school, and I love to ride dirt bikes. I enjoy doing many things outside like fishing, hunting, shooting guns, and riding dirt bikes. I have four dogs. I have a Great Dane, I have a Siberian husky, a Chihuahua, and a Beagle. I also have a ball python. |
