From the moment I saw the picture of the new litter of puppies, I knew exactly which one I wanted. She was the runt of the litter and had the white collar look around her neck. When my dad called to let them know we were interested in one of the puppies, he tricked me and said that the one I wanted had already been picked. I was so bummed. Later that day he called me over and said that he was lying and that he put a down payment on her so that we were guaranteed to get her! He was going to try to keep it a surprise until the day we got her but he just couldn’t keep it in. The day finally arrived, we went and picked her up and welcomed her into her new family. We named her Bree; however, she recognizes her nickname cookie better than her actual name. She inherited this nickname because she LOVES cookies/treats so much and is always begging for more. She knows where her cabinet of cookies is and will go over and scratch her paw on the door until she gets her way. With that being said I’ve trained her to do just about everything and she will as long as her reward is a cookie. She is more spoiled than you could ever imagine. She gets to go everywhere we go and even gets her own doggie sundaes from the Schwan man! She also loves to snuggle but I’ve learned to watch where I lay because she tends to fart frequently and let me tell you those are ROTTEN. However, I wouldn’t trade her for the world. So, if you need new dog definitely get a boxer, you won’t regret it! About the Author: My name is Tori Kurtz. I am a senior at Batesville High School. #7. Make good exercise habits
Although exercising can sound boring and dreadful, it is important to make healthy habits while you still can. This is probably the skinniest you are ever going to be. Keep yourself from gaining that freshman 15! #6. Kill them with kindness Be nice to the people you do not particularly like. Once these four years are over, you probably won’t see them ever again. #5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help Even though your teachers may sometimes seem like they are your worst enemy, they are actually there to help you succeed. They are always willing to help you with whatever you may need. #4. It’s only the next five minutes of your life That speech or presentation you are stressing over are just a few short minutes in this huge span of your life. No one is going to remember it in five years, so don’t stress out about it. #3. Grades matter I know it may not feel that important to study for a test, but it will in college. Start healthy studying and homework habits so you aren’t so stressed out in college. #2. It’s okay to stay in (but not every weekend) It’s okay to spend a Friday night at home by yourself, but don’t spend every weekend sitting in front of the tv. Spend time with your friends and go out. Netflix will always be there, but your friends will be gone in four short years. #1. Live in the moment Sometimes it’s hard not to wish for the weekend or the summer, but time flies by so fast. Don’t wish the time away. These four years will be over in the blink of an eye. Cherish your friends and make every moment count. These four years have gone by faster than I can grasp, and now there is only one semester left. Hold onto those Friday night lights, those ridiculous high school dances, and those awful school lunches. “It’s the oldest story in the world. One day you’re seventeen and planning for someday. And then quietly and without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And that someday is yesterday. And this is your life.” – Nathan Scott, One Tree Hill About the author: My name is Lily Abplanalp, and I’m a senior at BHS. I love listening to country music, going to concerts, and dipping everything in ranch. I hope to study speech pathology at UC or IU |
